The Sins of the Father

My name is Oliver Johnstone
I was born in South Wimbledon
My daddy he was proud to
Pay the highest schooling fees

I play proper music for the rich
I am dressed Americana kitsch
Nothing that I sing
Has a damn thing to do with me

And I have red wine to sip
And I have never tripped
There always was a safety net

I fear electronic beats
The unwashed sounds of an unclean street
I know my future is a safe bet

So come and listen as I sing what I feel
Pay a day's wage and jump around
I will quote the good book
But to newspapers I will kneel

So hear me repeat
Slogans I don't mean
And talk of grace I don't understand

So what side am I on
This well groomed pastor's son
I'd prefer you did not ask

And I have red wine to sip
And I have never tripped
There always was a safety net

I was built for success
And I do confess
I know my future is well set
